ARTIST STATEMENT

“I am a contemporary abstract artist based in Leicestershire, creating mixed-media paintings through colour, texture and intuition. Working predominantly with acrylics, inks, oil pastels and natural materials, I build layers through a process of adding, removing, scraping and revealing. I rarely begin with a fixed outcome. Instead, each painting develops through experimentation and my response to the marks, colours and textures already on the canvas. My work moves between vibrant, energetic compositions and quieter, atmospheric pieces that suggest landscapes, water, weathered surfaces or internal spaces. I am interested in the emotional effect of colour and in how an abstract image can evoke different memories, feelings and interpretations for each viewer. I returned to painting in recent years following my dad’s dementia diagnosis, which had a profound impact on our family. Painting became a place of calm, absorption and escape from the pressures of everyday life. This experience continues to influence the emotional quality of my work and my belief in the importance of creativity and connection. I create original works on traditional and linen canvas, alongside commissioned pieces and fine-art giclée prints. I make regular donations from my artwork sales to the Alzheimer’s Society, supporting its work for people affected by dementia. Above all, I want my paintings to bring colour, movement and individuality into a space, while leaving room for the viewer to find their own meaning within the work.”
