ARTIST STATEMENT

“I’m a self-taught artist based in Matlock Bath, Derbyshire, creating original paintings and prints inspired by the beauty, humour and character I find in everyday life. My work spans a range of mediums, including watercolour, acrylic and oil. I enjoy experimenting with different techniques and textures, allowing each subject to guide the way I work. From delicate flowers and peaceful reading scenes to my increasingly popular pigeons, I’m drawn to subjects that catch the eye, spark a smile or evoke a feeling of familiarity. Much of my inspiration comes from the world around me. I love noticing the little details that might otherwise go unnoticed, finding personality in animals and charm in ordinary moments. Humour and wordplay often find their way into my work, particularly in my pigeon paintings, where a little character and a touch of mischief can turn a familiar bird into something with its own story. I work from home, where I can take my time exploring ideas, developing compositions and experimenting with colour. My process is intuitive and evolving: sometimes a piece begins with a clear idea, while other times the painting itself leads me somewhere unexpected. Whether I’m creating a one-of-a-kind original or producing prints that make my work more accessible, my aim is to create art that feels approachable, individual and full of character. I hope my work brings a little colour, warmth and personality into people’s homes, and perhaps makes them smile along the way. For me, art doesn’t have to be complicated to be meaningful. Sometimes the simplest subjects have the most to say.”

I’m an artist working with original (& prints) oils, acrylic and watercolour art, bright florals and joyful minis, commissions open!
