ARTIST STATEMENT

“I am a Welsh artist working primarily in acrylic and resin, creating paintings and sculptural pieces inspired by the sea, nature and the quiet beauty of the world around me. My love of art began with my father, who encouraged my imagination from a young age. He wrote and illustrated a children’s book about me, in which I discovered that I could step inside paintings and explore the worlds within them. One of the paintings I entered was a beach, where I found pirates who had just stepped ashore from their ship. That story has stayed with me and continues to influence the way I see art — as something that can transport us somewhere beyond the canvas. The sea has become a particular source of inspiration within my work. I am drawn to its movement, light, colour and ever-changing atmosphere, often creating coastal scenes that invite the viewer to pause and imagine themselves within the landscape. Alongside acrylic painting, I work extensively with resin, using its depth, transparency and fluidity to recreate the qualities of water and the natural textures of the coast. I enjoy allowing each material to behave in its own way, embracing both control and unpredictability. I am still learning, experimenting and exploring where my practice can take me. Much of my creative work happens at home, where I find a sense of peace in the process of painting and making. For me, art is not only about creating an image, but about creating a place — somewhere that holds a feeling, a memory or a sense of escape.”
